Ok, so what's the deal.. What are people thinking.. I had to use a toilet the other day that had one of those infra-red thermal automatic flush units connected to it. Stand up it flushes. Not in 30 seconds, not in a minute, but NOW instantly. I described my dismay about this to a friend who said he cleans up before he stands up.. I had no idea. I always stand up first. Stand up, flush. Then I clean up, and manually have to flush again (how convenient that there's a little button to press on the top to force a flush) . However, lean over just a little too long and you've "armed" the sensor again, so when you lean back and it flushes again.
Who came up with this idea? Who is it that feels that flushing three times is worth the labor savings of one lever press on a normal toilet? Where people forgetting to do that? Ok, maybe 5 year olds forget, maybe 8.. but adults at work?
We have started using toilets in our homes that minimize the amount of water you use for a flush. Used to be you flushed with Three gallons of water, now it's down to something ridiculous like 1.6G. So in millions of houses across the country we've dropped to almost 1/2 of what used to be used, however, the problem is, it doesn't always work. So now you often have to flush twice.. And we're back up to 3, but ok, you know maybe on average, you only need to flush twice every few times so it saves water, even if it's annoying to you, because you have to wait for the toilet to fill again.
But automaitc flush on a sit down toilet. Just a stupid idea. On a urinal, sure, when you step away from the urinal you're done, you just have to clean up. So auto flush there works fine. But on a sit down toilet? Dumb idea... really dumb.
